My grandmother was a devout Christian. The non-drinking, often at her ladies group through her church kind. Grandma, and Grandpa, were regular church attendees, including a variety of events requiring some shareable goodies brought by her. My grandma made blankets, brought food to people in need and contributed a dish at memorial services for the bereaved family. Here is a recipe for one of her many delicious contributions. This recipe is well over seventy five years old. Besides my personal knowledge of the history of the family recipes, the high fat and sugar content often can be another tell. Not to mention the absence of spices that would make a recipe far more unique.
A fruitcake from my Grandmother. My grandpa LOVED fruitcake. All sweets actually. He is the reason dessert was a required component of every meal.
Never seen anyone so excited about getting a holiday fruitcake.
